Brief:
I wanted to create a lamp that put focus on how the change of light over the day, have an influenced on our daily routines, mood and health.
The lamp had to have a sustainable foundation, both in regard to function and production.
Response:
I looked into the newest research in therapeutical light, and took notice of how the light of day changes according to time of day. The light influences our production of certain hormones, that controls our mood and when we feel sleepy.
My visual inspiration came from a field trip to the Alps in wintertime.
Output:
I've designed the lamp so that it can be moved around according to function and time of day. In each of the possible positions the light has been designed to optimize the stimulation of the body to be either awake, fresh or tired.
I've kept the design simple and easy to dismantle, by using the cradle-to-cradle certificated material 'stone paper'.
Il Polpo is the beginning of a future where technology and research make it possible for us to design
artificial light, that is more real. |
